Hace algunos años conceví la idea de empezar un negocio de jabones hechos a mano. Ahora, en mi ultimo semestre en MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design) tenemos un proyecto final que desarrollar, mi carrera es Diseño Gráfico. El tema es abierto y pienso materializar la idea del negocio al que he llamado “Herencia”.

¿Porqué ese Herencia? Viviendo en los Estados Unidos es dificil estar en contacto con algunas de nuetras comidas o ingredientes a los que tenemos acceso en nuestro pais, en mi caso México. Los jabones que estoy desarrollando van a tener como ingrediente base el tamarindo y la jamaica. La especialidad de estos jabones son las mujeres embarazadas y por lo tanto tendran aromas cítricos como la naranja y la mandarina.  

La primera prueba de jabón que hice no fue muy exitosa, utilizé el tamarindo como base y unas cuantas gotas de aceite escencial de naranja. La consistencia del jabón quedó bien, el color y la espuma al ducharse es buena tambien, pero el aroma no tanto. Al poco de hacer esta prueba descubrí que estoy embarazada así que si a mi no me gusta el olor del jabón mucho menos a otras mujeres que estén en el mismo estado. Asi que el siguiente paso es refinar el aroma y la dimensión del jabón. 

Aqui les dejo con un boceto que esta inspirado en las hojas de naranja. Tengo muchos mas patrones para el embalaje de los jabones, pero claro seguiré haciendo mas bocetos y los tendré al tanto de los progresos.

A few years ago I had the idea of creating a business selling hand made soap. As my last semester in school at MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design) we have a final project before we graduate.

My degree is in graphic design so my project I will retake the idea of the soap business. "Herencia" is the name of the business (Herencia means heritage) Why this name? I live in the United States and is somewhat difficult to have access to some of my favorite foods and ingredients, in my case Mexican. The soaps I am developing have tamarind and hibiscus as base scents but the market for this priduct are pregnant women, therefore, the bases will be complimented with citrus scents.

My forst batch of soap was not very succesful. I used tamarind as the base and orange escential oil, the consistency of the soap was good, the texture, the color and the lather but not so much on the scent. A while after this test I discovered I'm pregnant and realized that if I don't enjoy the scent of the soap, other pregnanat women won't either. My next step is to refine the scent and dimentions of the soap.

I have included a sketch with a pattern of orange leaves. I have many more but I need to keep exploring patterns and packaging for the final product. I'll keep posting and adding some of the sketches I develop along the way.
